Citrus

No recipe today, just a quick post to show you how my limes and oranges turned out this year. I don't have any great citrus secrets to share with you, just don't over water and make sure you feed them regularly.

Ok, with those perfect limes I just have to share with you a couple of Mexican gourmet lovelies. First of all, Mexicans squeeze fresh lime onto all barbequed meat. I thought it was odd at first, but believe me it's delicious and really brings out the meat flavours. Another is the famous Michelada: squeeze two fresh limes into a beer glass, top with "cerveza claro" (light beer such as Sol or Corona) and dip glass rim in salt. Really lovely on a hot day. And the jewel in the crown? Guacamole. There are variations here, but the most common and delicious is this: one or two ripe avocados, one tablespoon of chopped fresh cilantro, one smaller spoon of very finely diced white onion and a generous squeeze of fresh lime. Serve with unflavoured unsalted nacho or pita chips. Delicous! Of course it helps that limes and avocados are both one NZ dollar a kilo here.
